The symptoms of a Kienböck’s disease

Kienböck’s disease is a condition in which the lunate, a central bone in the wrist, loses its blood supply, leading to death and deterioration of the bone. The disease may lead to debilitating osteoarthritis of the wrist.

What are the most common causes?

The exact cause of the condition is not known, but multiple predisposing factors include an injury to the wrist causing a disruption in blood flow to the lunate, making it susceptible to necrosis.

What are the symptoms?

It is difficult to diagnose in its early stages, but in later stages it manifests as pain and loss of mobility in the wrist as well as loss of strength.

How is it diagnosed?

Magnetic resonance (MRI) is the best way to make a diagnosis. X-rays will be useful in later stages of the disease.

The treatment exceeded my expectations. I was able to resume my normal activities, I who foresaw a long convalescence, without music and without sport. Thank you Dr. Brutus!
