What are the most common causes?
People commonly hold out a hand to break or cushion a fall, often resulting in a scaphoid fracture.
What are the symptoms?
This type of fracture is often difficult to detect because symptoms are minimal, usually only slight swelling and moderate pain. A classic symptom is tenderness to the touch in the hollow at the thumb side of the wrist.
How it is diagnosed?
X-rays are required and a scan can be useful to confirm and diagnose the type of fracture.
